Delta Airlines is known for its exceptional customer service and seamless travel experience. As part of their commitment to customer satisfaction, Delta Airlines has established a comprehensive baggage policy that ensures the safe and efficient handling of passengers’ belongings. We will delve into the details of Delta Airlines’ baggage policy, including information on carry-on baggage, checked baggage, fees for excess baggage, overweight baggage, oversize baggage, and sports equipment.
Carry-On Baggage Policy
When traveling with Delta Airlines, passengers are allowed to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop bag, free of charge. The carry-on bag should not exceed the maximum size limit of 45 linear inches (22 x 14 x 9 in) or 115 centimeters (56 x 36 x 23 cm), including handles and wheels. It should fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.
It’s important to note that certain items, such as jackets, umbrellas, diaper bags, duty-free items, and assistive devices like wheelchairs and strollers, do not count towards your carry-on allowance. However, if you are seated in a bulkhead seat without under-seat storage, all carry-on baggage must be stowed in the overhead bin during take-off and landing.
Checked Baggage Policy
Delta Airlines allows passengers to check up to 10 bags, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds or 23 kilograms per bag. The maximum dimensions for checked bags are 62 inches or 157 centimeters (length + width + height). However, it’s important to note that fees for checked baggage may apply, depending on various factors such as the type of fare purchased, the destination, and the passenger’s status with Delta Airlines’ frequent flyer program.
For flights within the United States, the standard checked baggage fees are as follows:
- First checked bag: $30.00 USD
- Second checked bag: $40.00 USD
Please note that passengers traveling to or from Key West, Florida are limited to one checked bag.

Additional Information: CPAP Devices
Passengers traveling with approved assistive devices, such as CPAP machines, must ensure that they have 150% of their actual flight time in battery life, regardless of how long the device will be used as a carry-on item. This ensures that the device can function throughout the entire duration of the flight.
